The Philosophy behind the science
The idea behind profeet was to utilise the latest scientific research and development in the world of biomechanics. Biomechanics is a science that looks at the interaction of the internal and external forces acting on the body from the environment.
Our aim is to offer a completely new approach to fitting footwear that is neither too clinical nor too laboratory-like, yet reflects state-of-the-art techniques and methods.
From profeet's perspective, the human body is a wondrous vehicle able to combine complex combinations of movements. Look at a gymnastic floor routine, the flow of movement, co-ordination and balance all working in absolute synchronicity and spontaneity. It is truly a sight to behold.
Prior to profeet's conception, the founding Director completed a masters degree focussing on the function of the Windlass Mechanism and its role in proprioception. The biomechanics at profeet are built around the resulting thesis. The Windlass Mechanism of the Foot, first observed by Hicks 1954, is the principle used in mechanical engineering; a natural feature that helps absorb shock, support body weight, return energy and propel the body forward.
The concept has gained enormously in popularity over the last few years and is at the leading edge of much research. Since the foot is the first point of contact with the ground and the last to leave, an ill functioning Windlass Mechanism will affect your natural biomechanics. profeet's analysis and moulding is centered around observing and facilitating this key mechanism.
We simply want to encourage these natural attributes in the human body.
