Trouble afoot?
Three men are studying my bare feet.
One of them – Paul – is probing gently with skilled hands: wiggling toes, exploring bone structure, testing flexibility. They’re not pretty. Schoolboy football and rugby, club hockey, skiing, a motorcycle accident and – for the last 10 years or so – semi-serious running have inflicted various degrees of damage on my lower limbs. I’m concerned they’re not robust enough to propel me through 26.2 miles. Which is why I’ve come to Profeet in Fulham – specialists in the biomechanics of sport (and feet in particular) – looking for advice on how to train to reduce my risk of injury. I’m also keen to find out if I can use orthotics to correct defects in my running style.
